*Acting Magistrate of Xiangshan County, Second Record of the Left Hall, Gu*:
Regarding the matter of fraud, concealment, and embezzlement of sugar silver—currently pursuant to an official dispatch (*xin pai*) issued by the Maritime Defence Prefectural Administration for Military and Civil Affairs (*Haifang Junmin Fu*), the present office is instructed to act in accordance with due administrative procedure. You are hereby directed immediately to recover and remit the sum of silver taels amounting to **974.063 liang** (nine hundred and seventy-four taels, six fen, three li), belonging to the following Chinese merchants: Zheng Bida, Zhao Xinyi, Cai Peizi, Deng Fanjiu, Xue Qianzheng, Liao Lanfang, Guo Songgong—funds designated for the purchase of sugar—and to transfer this sum in full to the foreign merchant *Rixin* (*Jih-shin*), who shall formally acknowledge receipt. A certified receipt (*shouling ju*) must be submitted to this office for verification. Failure to comply will incur disciplinary sanction.
Accordingly, the aforementioned sum of **974.063 liang**, subdivided into **eighteen sealed packets**, has been delivered to this yamen. In compliance with the above directive, this warrant (*pai*) is hereby issued to the designated foreign headman (*Yi Mu*), instructing him forthwith to direct the foreign merchant *Rixin* to prepare, without delay, **two original copies** of a formal receipt (*lingzhuang*), which shall be submitted to this office for audit and verification. Only upon submission and confirmation of these receipts will the silver be disbursed in accordance with the amount stipulated in the original mandate. Non-compliance or delay is strictly prohibited. This warrant is issued with urgency.
