The King our Lord, having regard to what was represented to Him on behalf of the Provincial of the Company of the Oriental Provinces concerning the stipend assigned to the Fathers residing in the mission of China, and regarding the increase of those who have been sent thither—[DAMAGED: having?] to this [DAMAGED: payment?] of one thousand xerafins of ordinary revenue which they receive, limited as previously established—has been pleased to grant them a favour in alms, by increasing by one thousand xerafins per annum the said stipend for the Jesuit Fathers residing in China. This augmentation is granted in consideration of there now being more than seven additional Fathers in the said mission beyond the fourteen who were already present when the original two thousand xerafins were first assigned to them; and henceforth these additional thousand xerafins shall be paid concurrently with the existing two thousand.
It must be sufficiently confirmed to the Viceroy of India that the said religious have increased their number in the mission of China to twenty-one religious in total. In such case, this favour shall take effect accordingly; otherwise not. Furthermore, within the time allowed for compliance, they shall be required to produce official certification listing the religious currently stationed in the missions under their charge in those territories [interlinear insertion: and in China], so that the total may be verified as amounting precisely to twenty-one. Failing such documentation, no further disbursement of this stipend—or of any future increases—shall be authorised or renewed.

The King our Lord, in consideration of the representations made on behalf of Father [DAMAGED: hole and ink blot], Provincial Superior of the Company of Jesus, and other religious accustomed to arranging matters concerning what [DAMAGED: hole and ink blot] resides in the Mission of China, and regarding the increasing expenses which [DAMAGED: hole and ink blot] have been incurred from this Realm and the revenues brought thence—namely, the ordinary stipends paid by the Kings of that Christendom—has deemed it fitting to grant a favour, by way of alms, granting to the said fathers of the Company residing in China one thousand xerafins in addition to the ordinary allowance.
This is in recognition of their having seven more priests in the said Mission beyond the fourteen who were already there when the said two thousand xerafins were originally assigned. Payment for these shall be made in India during the same period, since the two thousand are already allocated.
It is sufficiently evident to Your Reverence—or may be verified in the Indies—that the said religious have increased the number of the Chinese mission to twenty-one religious. In such case, provided this is confirmed effectively and otherwise duly substantiated, they shall be required, within the time allowed, to produce certification listing the religious currently serving in the missions under those dominions, so that verification may be made with regard to the said twenty-one. Otherwise, no further allowances shall be renewed, nor any others that may subsequently be requested.

By grace of His Majesty, 27 July 1615.
May our Holy Lord bless. With regard to the request made on behalf of Their Lordships of the Powerful [Senhorio], concerning the Fathers of the Company of Jesus, it is hereby ordered and decreed that the said Fathers have been dispatched to China with provision for their necessary expenses and costs during their residence; and inasmuch as this present order concerns the augmentation of support for the said Fathers in China—specifically, one thousand xerafins—as well as covering the expenditure for their Mission, in addition to the fourteen thousand already granted, when all such sums shall be paid to the said Fathers collectively, they shall receive the same amount accordingly.
Furthermore, the said Delegates are instructed to increase the number of missionaries stationed in the East, appointing one central Delegate, together with a designated residence; this arrangement having taken effect, its merits are deemed sufficient, though no additional obligation beyond the customary two vinténs per capita shall be imposed, nor any surcharge levied upon them. The funds are to be collected from the villagers, duly accounted for, and oversight of the Missions established in those cities must be maintained.
