The Office of the Municipal Council of the city of Nômada in India, dated 28 November 1643.
That there has come to hand one thousand one hundred and other letters, instructing that Master Cledefi be commissioned to respond on their behalf regarding the Japan trade and his Embassy; authorising him, for the discharge of duties pertaining to that city, to undertake three voyages with pending profits now buried among the rocks—much as was previously entrusted and remains unrealised. The Count Master is to pursue two trading ventures (fazemerces) charged to that city, stemming from the first voyage undertaken upon opening its commerce with Japan; and it may be possible once again to purchase goods through Master Abiuma, paying therefor when such voyages are dispatched at the expense of His Highness. Furthermore, the same equitable treatment in allocation must be granted by Varem over the years during which no trade occurred, as we have merited by order of the Crown, Master Sefer. It is requested that Abrequer grant permission for the residents of the city of Macao—who are deserving of the said royal favour—to conduct mercantile operations under Master Forseuidos; and that they petition Master Mry concerning the three Japan voyages: those voyages which are to be dispatched at the expense of His Highness shall proceed, with payment made in advance according to the established procedure (apruvida oprecodella), D. Era em Oito; and the proceeds from said voyage shall be remitted to Master Mry, together with payments due to the President of that city, along with stipends or allowances disbursed to the emissaries (Emassdeyq.) engaged therein. Moreover, from the proceeds of said voyages, Your Magnificence is requested to allocate funds towards the payment of the garrison (presídio) of that city, along with the regular salaries and double-pay allowances issued therein.
